About Amity
In 1962, Dr. Ernest and Emily Stowell of Eau Claire, Wisconsin,
founded Amity Institute to meet the needs of American foreign
language teachers and students for direct and personalized
contact with world languages and cultures. They also sought to
involve young people from abroad in American education,
family and community life. Several decades later, Amity
Institute has broadened into exchange programs that work
toward achieving the mission of building international
friendship and cultural understanding through teaching
exchange. Since its inception, Amity programs have enabled
thousands of people throughout the world to travel and enrich
schools and communities as international educators.
Today the Cultural Exchange Program arranges educational
assignments for international students or recent graduates who
are preparing for a career in the educational field. The
program provides them with the opportunity to share their
language and culture with the school and community. In
addition, participants learn and assist in an American classroom
under the direct supervision of a certified teacher.
The Exchange Teacher Program arranges for certified,
experienced educators from other countries to serve as
temporary faculty at accredited primary and secondary schools
in the U.S.
Amity's History
Amity Institute facilitates two international
exchange program: The Amity Teacher Program
and the AmityCultural Program. In reciprocity to
the USA-bound programs, Amity also arranges
short-term teaching and teaching assistant
opportunities abroad.
Cross-cultural interaction creates an effective, dynamic learning environment. In its Exchange
Teacher Program, Amity Institute sponsors international teachers to teach in American schools
and provides opportunities for global educators to share their knowledge with students,
schools and communities.
The Cultural Exchange Program provides opportunities for international participants to share
their native language and culture while assisting in foreign language classrooms under the
guidance of a certified American teacher.
